The main directions of constitutional reform in Uzbekistan discussed in New York
A briefing on constitutional reform was held in New York City with the participation of Uzbekistan delegation led by the Special Representative of the President for Foreign Policy Abdulaziz Kamilov.
The event was attended by representatives of expert-analytical, academic and business circles of the United States, the leadership of organizations of compatriots.
The participants were provided with detailed information about the relevance of the constitutional reform, the essence and content of the proposed amendments and additions, as well as their significance in further deepening large-scale democratic reforms initiated by the President of Uzbekistan.
It was emphasized that when summarizing proposals for improving the Constitution of the country, the main attention is paid to the implementation of the principle “In the name of human honor and dignity”. The wide and active participation of the population and civil society in the process of preparing and discussing new constitutional norms was emphasized.
It was noted that a nationwide referendum on the approval of amendments and additions to the Basic Law guarantees the truly nationwide nature of this democratic process and consolidates the key principle of transformation: “the only source and author of the Constitution are the people”.
Reasoned explanations were given on the events in Karakalpakstan, timely measures taken by the Government to maintain the rule of law, stability and tranquility of the people, as well as to ensure reliable conditions for further prosperity of this region.
The participants of the briefing welcomed the initiative of the leadership of Uzbekistan to reform the Constitution and expressed the opinion that this would consolidate the results of large-scale reforms achieved in recent years, as well as ensure their irreversibility, continuity and sustainability.
Full support was expressed for the actions of the President of Uzbekistan to stabilize and restore peaceful life in Karakalpakstan. In this context, a high assessment was given to the decision of the Head of the state to initiate the withdrawal from consideration of all amendments to the articles of the Constitution relating to this territory of the country. This was another evidence of the growing democracy in Uzbekistan.
