Uzbekistan intends to chair the Non-Aligned Movement in 2027-2029
Minister of Foreign affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov took part in the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in New York, reports “Dunyo” news agency.
At the meeting, the head of the MFA of Uzbekistan said that the country plans to chair the Non-Aligned Movement from 2027 to 2029.
The Non-Aligned Movement is an international organization created in 1961 and today uniting 120 countries on the principles of non-participation in military blocs. Uzbekistan joined the Movement in September 1992. Since 2019, Azerbaijan has been the chairman of the Movement, and this year the chairmanship has passed to Uganda (until 2026).
“Today, we face a landscape, marked by complex global processes and dynamic changes. Honored to announce historic milestone — Uzbekistan's plans to host the 20th Summit and chair the Movement for 2027-2029 focusing on key priorities like energy security, sustainable development, and enhancing global trade systems. We aim to foster peace, address climate change, and support a new generation through education. Together, we can tackle the challenges of our time and elevate the voice of the Global South”, stated Bakhtiyor Saidov.
